Nikon shooters - I need your help please:

I just upgraded to CS3 on a new computer and would like to know how you are processing your RAW files. My current method is to process in Capture, then finish them in CS2.

I would prefer not to use Capture with my new setup & will likely be adding Aperture soon.

Thanks for your help!

Dave - definitely check out Lightroom for processing your NEF files, too.... nice integration with CS2/CS3 and for many images can do the job all on its own.

I'm behind the curve. I use Raw Shooter Essential (cause it was free) to process and finish in Paint Shop Pro 9. Figure I'll make the upgrade to Lightroom in the next year.

Before moving to Lightroom, Aperture or anything that costs money, try launching Bridge CS3 and using the latest version of the Adobe Camera Raw, 4.1. I think it gives pretty good results.

Use the following link for information on the new raw processor:

ACR 4.1 does it all for me, about 90% of the time.

If you don't use Bridge, I'd just assign CS3 as a different opener (maybe even the default opener) for NEFs; that will open up ACR automatically and process the file directly into CS3. For those occasional situations where ACR just can't seem to get it right, you can always "open with" Capture.

I didn't consider the previous version of ACR to be up to the task; the new version seems to do a much better job of getting my files right "out of the box", and it's about a zillion times faster than Capture.

Agree with Phil and Les, although I have moved most of my workflow/processing to Lightroom and then use CS3 for things like stitching, final finishing, etc.

Thanks everyone - It's always great to consult with a panel of experts before spending more dough! I'll give ACR a whirl and post something.
