I will be in Carbondale the 2nd week of July. I want to visit Maroon Bells. Do you have to take the bus to the Bells on week days? Can a person drive in early and avoid taking the shuttle? I will gladly pay an entry fee, but really want to drive my own vehicle.
Thanks,
Carl

Pass the gate before 8am and you're golden.

Yep, get in early and no fee. When I go for sunrise summer shots I get into the parking lot around 4:15am and stake a spot along the water. Bring hot chocolate!

Geez, God puts up gorgeous montains and somebody has to charge a fee just to see 'em! Sounds like a Joni Mitchell song....
