I'm going up the Mackenzie River from Fort Providence to Inuvik. Has anybody done this trip and if so, what and where are the points of interest?
The trip is on a tug sized boat so any pointers on marine shooting would also be appreciated.

Not quite what you are looking for but I have made two trips to the Far North, one in 2005 and one this last Summer and have crossed the Mackenzie several times. I have been to Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, Hay River and every place as far East as Yellowknife then Westward via gravel roads until I intersected the Alaska Highway at Fort Nelson thence Northward to Whitehorse, The Klondike Hwy to Dawson City then the Dempster Highway to almost Inuvik but had to tunn back because the frost had not all come out of the ground above the Arctic Circle.
I think that you have left this journey for too late this year as you may not even make it to Inuvik and you will definitely not make it back before freeze-up and then what!.
My advice is to leave it to next year and leave in late June but that raises another question 'where are you going to launch your tugboat type vessel to get onto the Mackenzie' ?, Hay River and Great Slave Lake may be the answer as it is accessable via good paved roads.
