Fence near Catherine Creek. I've been eying this fence for years and last Fall I finally tried a few comps. I liked this one for the lines the posts' shadows provided, but I'm definitely going back to shoot it some more.

Got any I deas for my next try?

You might crop that bit of sky off the top of this one, and the lower margin of shaded grass, to provide a stronger emphasis on the fence and big pine as the focal points. I like this image a lot, in part because it brings back some very good memories of a few summers living in this kind of country. You've really captured the feel of the east slope landscape nicely!

I like the particular feel to this image; something about it that exudes that afternoon-countryside comfortability. The sky and tree branches on the left do distract a bit.

Thanks guys! I started a rework last night. In fact I not only cropped it, but I removed all the layers and started over. I think I'll actually be able to obtain a better image with only a curves layer followed by a composit layer for sharpening.

Trevor, I'm on the fence (sorry for the pun) regarding the crop. when I crop out the branches on the left, the fence feels too chopped off. I'll try to clone them out, but cloning's not my strong suit.

Great light, but what really makes it for me is the carefully selected perspective. It draws me into the scene which is perfectly exposed.

My only nits would be the sky in the upper left and that area of beat down grass in the lower right. If you did a perspective crop, and it didn't turn out too weird, I think it would be great.

Mark H, I'm not sure what you're getting at, but I'll experiment a little... my only problem is, I can't remember how to do a perspective crop

Scratch that. I remember now

Here's the perspective crop. I kind of like the way the shadows terminate near the corner on this one, but I think I like the stardard crop better (see next reply).

And here's a standard crop and a rework using only a curves layer and a composite USM layer. It seems like the fence posts came out a little flat/textureless on this one...?

BTW: the was processing in LAB Color.

I think you had it the first time, Curtis.

The first one is the better one, but that dern tree in the center of the image takes my eye away a little. The light on the grasses and fence shadow is beautiful though...

Nice, Curtis - I really like the first of the reworked images!
