I am also a brand new member from this area (just got my membership ID last night). My name is Angela Classen, and I reside in Topeka, Kansas. My husband and I just returned a couple weeks ago from vacationing in Utah. I hired a photo guide while in Moab, and after viewing the information about NPN on his web site, decided I should join in the fun! I've been shooting photos practically my whole life, and just recently purchased a Canon Rebel XTI digital, so I'm having to learn all about the quirks of digital. I specialize mostly in landscapes and florals.
I got some really nice shots in Utah and will get some of them posted soon and hopefully get my portfolio set up. I already posted one photo (not from Utah) under the flora category and was pleasantly surprised to see so many hits and comments in only one day.
Looking forward to visiting with you "locals" soon!

Welcome aboard Angela! You won't be sorry you joined NPN. And CSNP has a group a friendly folks willing to share their expertise to help everyone take better pictures. I joined last fall and have learned a tremendous amount of stuff. I look forward to seeing your work here.

YES! Another Kansas photographer! Glad to have you aboard Angela. Can't wait to see some of your work and as soon as I'm done here I'm headed to flora to check out your post!
Now, to steal Tim E's line "YIPPIE COYOTE"!! Now we Kansas photographers are starting to gain on all those Arkansas photographers who seem to dominate this group! Watch out boys .... we're coming after you!

Hi Angela,
How odd! I'm new to NPN also and I was in Moab a few weeks ago and hired a guide! I used Bret Edge (he was wonderful!!) and he encouraged me to join NPN. You didn't happen to use Bret, did you?
I'm from Kansas City, Missouri, and I'm excited to be a part of the CSNP. When life slows down a bit, I'll post some shots also. Glad somebody else who's close by just joined as well. Happy shooting!
Looks like we need to have a Kansas gathering in the near future!

Yep Tim, I think you're right. And unlike Arkansas, the "waterfalls" in Kansas City fall up before falling back down! That's right, the city of fountains!
Dena,
As a matter of fact, I did use Bret Edge! We had been to Moab several times before so was pretty familiar with what was there and what I wanted to see more of. I agree, Bret was great and took me to some wonderful spots, and I got some unique viewpoints and good light. I found the NPN link on his web site when I got back home. I decided I'm ready to take the next step with my photography and thought this looks like a great forum to move in that direction. Bret was talking about a lady from KC who shot a waterfall of some sort just a day or so before I came out- was that you? BTW, did you see Bret's shot in July Pop Photo? It's a unique angle of Delicate Arch - he took me to that viewpoint, although none of my photos turned out as well as his...

Angela,
How funny, what a small world. That probably was me, we shot Faux Falls - he has a nice posting of it out there. I did see Bret's shot in Pop Photo, really liked it. His shots tend to turn out better than mine as well. :smile
Look forward to seeing your Moab posts and chatting with you about Midwest photography too!
