My wife just booked a room in Pacifica for Sunday night (Father's Day) It'll be a family affair, but I'm hoping to do at least a sunset and sunrise on the coast.

I'm thinking the fog is rolling back in this weekend, so that may put a damper on things...

Anil - or anyone, do you have any beach recommendations? I'm inspired by the rocks/stones series so I'm more inclined for intimate shots rather than a grand sunset. Of course nature will dictate what is available.

Any ideas for me?
Thanks!

Lon

Anywhere in Pacifica is a winner in my book, (I used to live there.) forget the micro stuff, the scenery is awesome there. If it is foggy, there is this mountain trail in this park in the back of town. I don't rememb the name but it climbs up the coastal range to Devil's Slide I think. of course there are hills along the beaches too which are nice.

My favorite site is Bean Hallow State Beach, about 30 miles s. of Pacifica. Closer in is the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve at Moss Beach.
If you get totally fogged out, try the Stephen Johnson Gallery in town at 1220-C Linda Mar Bl., creekside suites 5-7.

check out the golden gate national parks - milagra ridge, mori point, sweeney ridge and pedro point. at milagra ridge there is a Nike missle launch site in addition to WWII battery #244. happy father's day.

Hi Lon,

You will find a string of lovely beaches all the way from Pacifica to Santa Cruz. Its hard to name any particular one - I find them all to be immensely beautiful. Right at Pacifica itself there is a large beach, one end of which (the end away from the Taco Bell/parking lot) has some awesome sea stacks. As you head south on Hwy 1, you'll experience the most dramatic coastline at Devil's Slide. It is really worth seeing. If you are up to it, there are coastal access trails leading off the highway that will get you down to the water level.

For my current coastal work, I frequent the area between Half-Moon Bay and Santa Cruz (its the closest to San Jose). That section is a good 40 minutes south of Pacifica along Hwy 1.

All of the beaches along the San Mateo coast feature nice rock formations and you should have a grand time. I hope the weather co-operates.

Take care and have a great Father's Day.

Does anyone know if PCH is currently open past Devil's Slide? I might be heading to the Bay Area for a while to shoot.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Hopefully I'll have something to report when we get back on Monday.

Richard,

PCH (Hwy 1) is open.

Cal Trans is actually building a tunnel around that area and once that is complete you won't be able to drive on the old Hwy 1 in that section. It will be turned into a ped/bicycle road.

interesting. That was my favorite section too! :frown:
