Hungry Moth
I shot this photo last weekend at Konza Prairie over by Manhattan. As per usual, the wind was blowing, the flowers were swaying precariously, and the butterflies and moths constantly fled from my lens!! I somehow managed to catch this halfway decent one. Comments from all you "locals" would be appreciated as I'm not sure if I should post this one to the main network or not. I like the colors, and the fact you can see something reflected in the moth's eye.

Hi Angela,
Great first post! This had to be a difficult shot with the wind blowing, there is good detail in the moth and the flower. The brighter petals at the bottom first grabbed my attention, so how about this suggestion. Crop this to a pano just below the moth, eliminating the brighter petals. What this would do is bring all the attention to the moth and possibly create a stronger image. Again that is just a suggestion, if this were mine I'd certainly consider it a keeper. Great first post and look forward to seeing more!

Hi Angela,
Tough shot to capture, the wind is always blowing there! I like the colors and the shallow DOF that just emphasizes the butterfly and the flower, nice work!

Welcome to the forum, Angela - nice first post! From the shadows, I'm thinking this was shot near midday. Have you been able to get out early or late? I'm thinking that you would find better light conditions during those times, and would also likely benefit from calmer winds. :wavey:

Hi Angela, this is a very nice comp. Wonderful background and good environmental shot of the moth on the coneflower. The colors look spot on and there is some good detail even with the challenge of the wind. I like Bill's suggestion of the early morning shoot, though as another Kansan I know it's rare that the wind isn't blowing. Wonderful first post! :wavey:
