Last week I noticed a few woodpecker's nests with lots of noise coming from them but as I was away for the weekend I thought they would be fledged by the time I returned,I tapped on the tree and this nosey youngster popped his head out long enough for a quick burst of shots.

Barrie, this is stunning. Its a remarkable portrait. My only suggestions (which are extremely minor nits and should in no way take anything away from this) are to clean the reflections in the eye to remove the flash highlight and also to slightly desaturate the colours... saying that, I love the shocking red Mohawk!
A corker Barrie! Funny thing I found a young male GSW in the middle of a road on sat, picked it up and put it on the verge but it didn't stay for a photoshoot.
I'm wondering if it could do with some noise removal ?
Regards

Great image Barrie, I'm a little surprised you had that much noise with only a small crop and ISO 400. great portrait anyway. I had a woodpecker visit my garden twice in one day but never had the camera with me, hasn't been back since.

Awesome close-up.The detail is fantastic, aswell as the subject.
