I took this shot of some Orange Hawkweed in my front yard. I know I should probably kill it but I usually mow around it while it is blooming.

Philip, this is a dramatic flower. I can see why you want to give it a chance to bloom. There seems to be a halo of some sort around the flower. Is that movement or post-processing. I think I would also consider cropping most of the right side--maybe a vertical image?

Chucks suggestions make sense to me as well. Funny how aesthetic some weeds can be at times! I'm glad it didn't get mowed immediately.

Phil,

!) Vertical--definitely ( I get yelled at for shooting too many verticles but in this case it is screaming Vertical.
2) Step hack with a long telephoto (22, 300 if you have one) and shoot it at about F5.6 and blow out the cluttered background.

You have yourself a good image!

Thanks for the comments. I think it does look better cropped. Unfortunately I can’t get rid of the halo. I think the depth of field was not correct and the halo is caused by some dead leaves or grass. I think this is headed for the trash bin. Looks like a project for next year.
