Grassy Bald Rocks!

Actually its Grassy Ridge Bald, but this scene certainly DOES rock!

Was this sunrise or sunset and which day? I hiked up from Carvers Gap on Thursday morning, starting at 3:30 AM under crystal-clear, starry skies, only to have the mountain shrouded in clouds and fog by 5 AM when I reached the top. Bummer for me, but looks like you had an awesome time up there.

That was taken Friday night after sunset.

Sunset was very cool both Friday and Saturday night which we stayed up on the bald. Saturday morning was an amazing thunderstorm at dawn with an incredible mix of light and cloud conditions, including some remarkable pink fog on the grassy ridge gardens that quickly turned into a downpour with lightning. I was glad I didn't get hit! Saturday night was a more typical southern appalachian summer sunset, but very nice. Sunday morning I was treated to a delightful sunrise over the grassy ridge gardens. We hiked out after that and hit the parkway, hiked out to Linville Falls, stopped by Louise's Rockhouse cafe in the town of Linville Falls so I could buy a strawberry rhubarb pie for my family (a big tradition for us), then took the parkway to Asheville, stopping a few times including the wonderful grassy forest at Craggy where I got some clouds and took a few more pictures.

I still haven't even downloaded any of my Saturday night / Sunday pictures off my camera yet!
