A story about Canon's environmental efforts:

As a nature photographer and an environmentalist, yet more evidence that CLEARLY the best choice is Canon.

Yup, the rerun season is upon us. On TV and on the web!

Wildlife as CANON sees it. There must be a good reason for that slogan.

Fight! Fight!

I don't care if Apple only got a 2. I'm not about to give up my Macs. I have 3 canon bodies and a dozen lenses so I think it all balances out in the wash.

I tried Pentax, Nikon, Minolta, Mamiya, Hasselblad Leica... I never got a single good shot. Now that I own Canon every photo is amazing!

My photos stink regardless of which brand of camera I use... :frown:

I shoot a Tachihara (huh?)...I guess I'm just out of luck. :frown: :jump:

Interesting article.

My Nikon camera takes good pictures and so do expensive lenses---

if it were only that simple. How did Galen get all those incredible shots with those primitive FM's & FE's.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... just maybe its the photographer.

Once you take the photographer's skills out of the equation, Canon is the clear choice. In my mind, there isn't even anything else to consider for a variety of reasons - pick whatever one you want. It's Canon all the way. I don't know what else they need to do to bury these overly nostalgic Nikon people (back in the 70's and 80's, the name actually meant something). There isn't a fight to be had here, or even a question. It's just common sense at this point, and will continue to be even more so in the forseealbe future.

Marc, I'm in 100% agreement, but it's nice to sit back and watch the fight.

Marc, I agree that I am lacking in common sense but "overly nostalgic"? No way!....although I do kinda miss my Wingtips. :wavey:

:wavey: whats all the :argue: Don't mind me Cannon or Nikon I shoot both and like both

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys sure put a lot of faith in your equipment! I didn't know it was soooooo improtant.

All this time I thought it was the photographer who took the pictures, and not the camera!

I guess I was wrong.

I have tried many of them, including Canon and Nikon, and have come to discover that my heart makes the best images. No camera will ever beat it.

Yep
I think brand is the least important part of photography.I love my canon equipment but Im sure my images would be just as bad if I used Nikon or any other marque

Having methane problems again, Jim? You do know that methane is a greenhouse gas, right?

I don't think this was meant to be a real Canon vs. Nikon bashing thread, folks. If you follow the link it takes you to an article about "green" companies. Sheesh! :argue:

I will admit, though, that Nikon cameras do pollute the environment more from all the photographers who chuck their D200s in the landfills. (Duckin' and runnin' for cover, folks. )
Posted by Keith Anderson on June 22, 2007 at 4:25 AM
I think you all have a serious problem cause ya all talking S%^T and that folks produces a shocking gas that destroys the ozone layer so lets all be green and stop the canon vs nikon crap, Good to see some companies trying to combat that
Posted by Jos De Braekeleer on June 22, 2007 at 4:46 AM
NIKON ... NIKON ... NIKON ... NIKON ...NIKON ...NIKON ...NIKON ... so now I washed your brains ( it's called brain washing ...) from now on every NPN member reading this will buy NIKON NIKON ...NIKON ...NIKON ...NIKON ... CANON ... CANON ...CANON ... oops forgot to wash my brain ... :jump:

Boys and Girls,
This most certainly brighened up my day, and my partner in crime uses canon and he had to go to scholl to use it..lol

This is definately amusing and all. Some of us in the nikon "minority" would benefit from some details as to why many of you prefer canon . Some clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

In my limited experience, while having a more complex HMI (human-machine interface) the Cannons offer more control to the thinking Photographer. While making a great camera with superb optics Nikon appears to be marketing to the high end consumer who wants a good camera that they can "point and shoot". Look to their current advertising campaign:

Well, yeah.... when I need a new anchor for my boat I guess a Canon will be better than my Nikon
Posted by Daniel McKeehan on June 24, 2007 at 4:13 PM
I own a D2x and a lot of lenses, I wished I had not spent so much in glass as I woulod switch in a heartbeat. Can't beat the image sensor in a canon. Canon advertises themselves as the company "that listens" I wished Nikon would do a bit of the same. For now my Nikon works but in the near future I may just make the jump and swap.......

True. But in the world of names that used to mean something what about Leitz -- the sub contractor to Panasonic?

Has anyone tried an M8? Can the sensor take advantage of the lenses? Is it worth $4700 body only? Seems like a Canon 5D with L glass would be a better buy. But when I hit the Lottery I will buy an M8 and find out (right after I get tired of the 5D that I'll buy first).

Cheers,
Frank

No comparison, Canon is the winner!

What? Is that a NIKON shot on this month's NPN cover? Say it isn't so! :jump:  :jump:  :jump:

I think Jim chooses one every once in a while out of pity...
Posted by Charlie VanTassel on June 25, 2007 at 11:42 PM
Hmmmm... well I was just noticing that out of the five most recent NPN cover shots, four of them were shot with a Nikon (one with a Canon :frown: ). Seems like an unusually high percentage for a group in the minority. I smell a conspiracy here. Just how much do we know about Jim anyway?

How does one market 'Soul', dude?

Hey Preston,

Easy - the same way to market anything else -- make it sound French .. "Soulle". :)

One of the ways to see which camera is best, you should examine expert reviews. And this site, http://www.smartratings.com/photography/digital_cameras , makes it convenient for us to do it since all the expert reviews of a single item are aggregated in one page.

hmmm... in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a canon shooter. now for my critique of the study. It's crap. IMHO this kind of study should measure actual environmental impact, and the companies perceived attitude and/or efforts, should not be a factor. low environmental impact is low environmental impact, and if the company can do it with a lousy attitude, little effort, and lousy reporting, so what? the result is the same.

IMO this study is nearly worthless. It contains too much politics.
