My wife and I would like to get away for 3 or 4 days starting round the 7th of July. I am looking for a location within a few hours drive of North Georgia that would give a chance for some decent mid-summer photo opertunities and with some not to difficult hikes, maybe 2 to 4 miles or so, that we could enjoy together. I was thinking about Big South Fork and photographing some of the arches there. I have never been and know nothing about the area though. Would this be a good place to try in July? How hard is it to get into some of the arches early in the day for good light. Are any of them located so they would be shaded on up to say mid-morning or later in the afternoon? Also if any of you have other/Better suggestions for a July trip that fits the bill I would love to hear them.
Thanks ahead of time for any comments.

Bruce,

You might want to consider the BRP near Black Balsam/Tennent Mountain/Shining Rock, NC area. Its a great place to beat the summer heat, great views at sunrise and sunset, and some of the best hiking trails in the east, particularly the Art Loeb Trail. Do a quick online search for any of the places I mentioned or shoot me an email for more information.
