This image has not been received well by the photo sites I have posted to, yet all of my friends are enthusiastic about it. I figured I would post this to the no-nonsense PNWNP community to see what's really going on in this image
This is a pool at the base of Henline Falls, near Opal Creek outside Salem. I couldn't go much higher on the falls without some nasty sky bloom, curious as to what you think of this. Thanks!
The strong point of the image is the cool water color and varied rocks at the bottom of the frame. I feel a little disconnect between upper and lower sections though, but not so much that I would leave off one or the other - if that makes sense. The thick grey band across the middle splits things a bit too much for me, but if I look closer, the repeating V shapes in the rock features do work together somewhat. It aint one of your best, but it's still nice. I love that area.
This is the nicest image from Henline I've ever seen. I can't wait to see what the "old timers" have to say about this one! I learn a lot by reading their critiques. Well done Andy!
This is very nice.... I'm not sure but it really feels like 2 images to me. If you focused on that pool and the FG rocks as one shot and then the beautiful falls with the rock as a base then it would work better for me. I think what does work is that you don't expect to see a green mossy waterfall and that type of rocky area in the same location..... nice shot no-matter what anybody says

I like this image, I don't mind the separation, to me there are 3 distinct layers that have a nice graphic feel to me.
Andy,
The cool color of the water and the rocks that lay within are perfect for starting the interest of the image. I feel blocked but the cutoff triangle boulder on the bottom. Do you have a comp where you were closer and lower to the water?

I like it, Andy - for me, it works just the way you've composed it. I like the triangular boulder in the foreground for the way that it picks up the echoing diagonals across the image, and of course, the water and rocks are gorgeous. I didn't see you working on this one - well done!
Hi, Andy,
I'm with the two images camp. I love the cascade of the falls. I love the fg pool-- the colors there and the way the rocks look. When I think about trying to keep the compostion as you saw and appreciated it, I see a crop off the left and the bottom. Something about the triangular boulder in the fg bothers me, but I can't explain it. Overall, though, it's a cool shot and one that I would be happy to have gotten.
Thank you for all the comments, I am glad to see this is enjoyable to many. Next time I go, I will try to get a better angle, for less separation, although this area has been on the move recently - according to tom this pool wasn't there 2 years ago - so I'll have to hope for the best after next flood season!
