This Years Conference was a good day, now our thoughs are turning to the next conference (next year) so some questions are in order to members and guests?

In answering these questions please be realistic about your availibility as decisions will be taken on the answers and we would like a good turn out.

1) Would you prefer a 1 or 2 day event, the two day event possibly/probably incorporating the abilty to take some nice pic's

2) Whilst we have stated that it would be on the 18th Jan, this is not an imutable date therefore would you prefer Jan, Feb, Mar, April.

3) What topics would you like to see presented upon e.g. Technical Photoshop skills, places in the UK, places abroad, mounting and framing, how to work an assignment ... you name it (as long as it's nature photography related  )

4) Please email me (Tom) with people you would like to see give a presentation, again, EMAIL ME with who you want to present do NOT post here or I will remove it as some may use it as an opportunity for advertising games.

5) What is the maximum you would be prepared to pay for a day (two days?) excluding travel and subsistance (hotel/food etc). I intend to do it as cheap as possible but the more you think is reasonable the better the scope I have for possible venues (the cost of some lecture halls is prohibitive) and speakers.

6) a rough indication if you are interested in turning up, no commitment required at this stage.

Discussion, other than answering Questiion 4 (by email please), is welcomed below.

Cheers

1. undecided

2. jan/feb

3. the business of photography as a professional - i.e. realistic turnover goals, how often to submit to the same magazines efore changing tack, broadness of market etc.

4. someone who can talk on 3. (i don't have a suggestion)

5. £100 including accom (if 3 and 4 are well arranged, it will be more than worth it)

6. yes

my thoughts,

mark

Hi Tom

1) I prefer a one day event, a Saturday rather than a Sunday.

2) Jan 18th is no good for me, clashes with the SWPP fair in London. Jan 25th weekend is ok though.

3) Ideas include Lightroom/Photoshop workflow, dealing with photo agencies (not ALAMY), errr... probably lots of other things but I can't think of them just at the moment.....

4) will PM some ideas.

5) I don't mind paying a few quid for a decent venue, I appreciate it is not always easy to get a 'free' room. £50 would be ok, maybe with an onsite buffet lunch.

6) roughly I am interested in attending

cheers

Tom

1. If it were a 2 day event I'd rather glean a full 2 days of info than take any pics

2. Whenever - but the earlier in the year the better (least daylight!!).

3. APTAT (a la Artie M's seminars) - workflow techniques and Marks 3. is vital too.

4. I could think of one or too NOT to suggest

5. 2 days £100 ish or 1 day £50ish - my 'ish' might be different than yours

6. Would very much fancy attending - but depends on location.

Regards

Andy

Tom,

1 ) I'd be happy to attend a 2 day event.

2) January is always a good time of year for me.

3) Agree with the suggestions above, work flow, and the business of photography. Also trip reports covering locations, and field craft styles.

4) ...

5) In the order of £100 for 2 days, and £50 for a single day sounds fair to me.

6) Having missed out on the last one, I'm eager to attend.

Tom
1) Would be interested in either.
2) Jan/Feb would be my preference.
3) All of the above are good suggestions. Perhaps a printing demo (dunno if Epson, Canon etc. would maybe send a rep if enough people attend?)
4) I can learn from anyone
5) No real budget, depends on location and content.
6) Expect to attend.

4)Don't mind too much who....
5)About £50 ish
6)hope to attend although can't give firm answer yet.

Tom,

Apologies for not replying sooner but, for once, I have tried actually considering my reply  - Not that it's helped much

1. I would prefer a two day event with most of the time given over to talks but some time (maybe early on the 2nd day) for photos but only if this was logistically possible.

2. I think Feb as in Jan I might be out of the country. Not too late in the year when we might be busy with other things.

3. Business of photography as per Marks and Seans suggestions plus some image processing workshops.

4. I will leave it to others to suggest (I don't want to be done for libel or slander  )

5. My finances are a bit (ok a lot) stretched but maybe up to £100 for 2 days

6. Provisionally yes I would like to attend.

Thanks

Adrian

I was interested in attending the this year's conference (but it clashed with other things) and I'm interested in attending the next if the same doesn't happen.

I think that many people will get more out of the informal time together than from a series of slick presentations from company reps and such. So my preferred format would be either:

- a one dayer with more demo than lecture with coffee breaks and and a long lunch, or
- a two dayer, with a first day out shooting and perhaps with more in the way of formal content on the second day.

That's all you get from me for 2p

Agree with Phil Shaw. Maybe even split the people that wanted a shoot on one day but maybe that would just make organisation more of a 'mare?

Many thanks.... I will leave this up for another week, I am still looking for more responses

Hi Tom,

Ross and I would like to attend again. Either one or two days are fine. We would be interested in talks on locations, particularly in the UK. We are interesting in PS techniques to a degree. Can't suggest any speakers but we enjoyed all of the ones at the first conference. £100 ish for a 2 day conference would be fine.

Best

I will come over again if it is possible as i enjoyed this years get together but found it too short and many people that i wanted to talk to at length and vise versa didnt happen,so yes a 2 dayer with plenty of free time-some workflow chat is always going to help

1. Prefer 2 days of talks
2. Friday - Sun best for me probably in Jan
3. All aspects of photography as a business, technical on raw converters, Lightroom & PS, fieldcraft and even camera technique eg settings for various situations/subjects for correct exposure & dof. UK locations.
4. As per John Kerr
5. £100ish for 2 days inc hotel
6. Would like to attend

1. I'd prefer the 1 day option, although maybe having the option of attending either 1 or 2 days.

2. January's fine with me.

3. Dealing with agencies is useful, but for me, the most useful thing to come from something like this is the opportunity to meet others informally (like Phil says)

4. ...

5. I'll stick with the majority here and say £50!

6. This year was a great event, so I'll definately attend if I can!

just another thought, maybe a portfolio (?!) or print critique would be useful, from the guy that gives the talk on business of etc if there is to be one?

agree two days or one day without company reps would be a lot better than me winning tha lottery and having to listen to a rep waffle on. experienced photographers is what its about, not someone with a degree and no interest.

One or two days either is fine and so would sometimes taking images

50 to £100 seems OK

Not really interested in learning how to set any camera, or for that matter on workflow as I have my workflow routine

I would be interested in some photo shop techniques especially with CS 2(although there is lots and lots of info on the Web) now that I have it, all so I would be much more interested in colour management.

Has for speakers as long as they are interesting have some good images and not windbags (which is a bit of a contradiction of terms for a speaker) not really bother who you get.

Would like the venue closer to the north of England (but that's never going to happen  ) and it doesn't matter when it is so yes I am interested in coming.

Phillip.

I would like a day out shooting, night in the pub followed by another day of shooting.
£100 fine by me.
Had a great time last time so would like to come.

I like Tim's idea

A two day event sounds great but please don't make it two days about raw converters and workflow. After all, what's the use of the latest and greatest software if you haven't got any decent images to process  So I'd like to see something along the lines of

a) Locations: great places to go to photograph wildlife (UK preferred) including the logistics of getting there

b) Fieldcraft: getting close enough to the subject to be able to photograph it

c) Getting the shot: shooting angles, composition et al

£100 for 2 days sounds fine to me as does January. Would deinitely attend barring unforeseen hitches.

1) 2 days. Mainly talks and discussions unless you find a venue with really good photographic opportunities.
2) January would be fine for me.
3) I would be very happy with lots of talks and lots of photographs from both pros and amateurs. Informal short talks from all participants would be nice. These could be night sessions with music and drinks.
5) £80 with accommodation for one night.
6) I will try my best to go

Javier

Tom
I would come again, enjoyed this year.
January would be fine; 2 days would be good if there were photo opportunities.
£100 seems about right.
I like the idea of Field craft different techniques and how different people might tackle the same or similar subjects, do people have an idea of the shots they want before they tackle a subject and do they achieve them. Basically more about being a better photographer and not a computer expert.
