Shining Rock wilderness wildflowers in late July?

I'm considering a backpacking trip in late July in the Shining Rock Wilderness.

I'll be going with a friend and we will both bring our kids.

What are good places in the Shining Rock Wilderness to camp and photograph wildflowers with good sunrise / sunset vistas? I'd prefer somewhat shorter hikes with less vertical climbing if that is possible.

The Art Loeb Trail from the trailhead Black Balsam Road to Shining Rock will give you plenty of opportunities. I like to camp at Flower Gap which gives you sunrise and sunset opportunities from your campsite as well as a short 15 minute walk to Shining Rock.

Thanks Richard. I'll take a look at that.

BTW are there any good online maps that show the Art Loeb Trail, Flower Gap, the Black Balsam area, etc.? Or any paper maps you recommend that I can order?

Thanks!
