CJ's post reminded me of a skunk cabbage photograph that I took earlier this spring (also inspired by Jack, as well as some Corn Lilly photos that I've seen). I didn't zoom in nearly as far as the other guys, but focused on the lines and forms created by the interaction of the leaves and the light. When I originally got the transparency back from processing, I was disappointed that a small section of one of the leaves was slightly out of focus (depth of field issues, despite being shot at f45). My solution was to crop the 4x5 transparency to a different composition that excluded the problem area of the image. The resulting size of the piece of film is almost exactly 6cmx7cm, so a quality print can still be made thankfully. After living with the crop for a bit, I actually probably like it more than my original composition.
As always, honest thoughts are appreciated. Thanks for looking.
Tech Stuff: Tachihara 4x5, Fujinon 135mm, Provia 100f, PL filter, Diffusion tarp to even out the lighting and block the wind during the long exposure.
Nice Joel - I like the lines on this one. I am slightly distracted by the dark spaces in the center (very slightly) but I don't know that you can do much about that. Technically, this is pretty impressive for 4x5 - I don't think I would have even attempted that!
Hey Jack, see what you started!! Perhaps we need to put together an exhibit - we can call it "Sniffing out the Skunk"......??
The curves moving into the center makes this happen for me. Large format macro is really interesting. Patience and knowledge led to this image. I like it a lot!

Very nice, Joel. The detail in a print would be mind blowing. The wonderful curves in the image are what really make it for me.
