I did a shoot of my niece's baby Kinsley today, my first real "session". It went well, got several images that I'm very pleased with. This is quite different from nature photography though, where my subjects usually stay still! I posted an image in the Off-Topic gallery...please check it out and let me know what you think!
When I first became hooked on photograpy I never imagined where it would take me since my only interest at first was the no-sign-of-man type of landscape images. However, I've found that my training in composition for landscape images has helped me out tremendously with all other forms--commercial, portrait, etc. It's funny though--people think that since you're a good photographer in one genre--say landscape--that you can do all types--when the reality is that each type of photography requires some different skills, equipment and so on.
I just took a look at your website and am amazed at your great eye for the landscape image--my favorites were the Lily Thing, Roaring Fork Snow in Spring & the Loca.....? tree in Black & White. Amazing eye for the quiet details and forms in nature. I also really liked the design of your website--did you design it yourself?
Alice, I did things just in reverse...I've been doing portraits and weddings for years and have just started with the wonderful world of nature.....The nature photography has been a wonderful release
