When i was in Yellowstone 10 days ago, I got an excellent casting from a perfect huge wolf paw print I found in some hardened mud along the Lamar River. I ran inro "town", got a bucket of plaster, and casted it (with original LaMar river water LOL! ).
I made a reverse cast when I got home, and several more casts now from it.
6 people who have seen it here loved it, and have purchased a cast, so it might be marketable.
So, what do you guys think? Very honest opinions, please!!
This is about 6 inches in diamter, and very stong. I have a balanced hanging loop on the back, and will imprint one of the Yellowstone pins (in the next photo, 1.5 inches in diameter)) into the back, along with imprinted (by hand) info - species, location, date, etc.
What would you buy this for, if you think it is marketable? I'm thinking about $35?
here is the Pin to be imprinted into the back -they are $5 each, but very nice.

Sandy, besides hanging on the wall, or collector's displays, the only other thing I can think of is to perhaps market them as decorative garden stepping stones.
But, if I had it, I would wait until my next camping trip with my brother and use the original cast to make a bunch of wolf prints in the dirt outside the tent before he gets up. That would scare the crap out of him and get him good!!!
Sandy, hate to be a spoiler, but there could be big problems useing the pin and LOGO from yellowstone without authorization. Have you looked into that at all?

Seems to me that if she paid for the pins, there's not much they can do about it... She should be able to resell them if she wants. it's not like she's created her own "copy" of thier logo, she's using something that they sold her.
But then, I'm not a lawyer so maybe I'm talking out the wrong end...
Curtis, The problem is it gives the appearence that it is a product authorized by Yellowstone. Very similar to a badly photocopied studio photo that that implies the quality of the studio whose name was on the front.
I'm no lawyer either...but you'll get in BIG trouble if you buy a copy of Microsoft Windows and try to sell it again for profit unless you are an authorized reseller.
Six inches...I think $35 is too much. I'd say $20. Maybe $35 if it was twice that size.
I should add that less impressive ones at the Yosemite and Tetons art galleries sell for $75 - $100., and they sell 50 or so a month, one gallery said..

I'm probably way off base...but then again there's probably gonna be a little difference between a national park, right then and there...remember the experience kind of purchase...to a local art fair...but maybe you are closer with the $35 price tag...
Rick -sorry this reply ended up tight after yours! I was typing it as you were, probably, and got distracted, and didn't send it for a few minutes - so it looked as if I was disagreeing with you! Not at all!
You're surely right that being IN Yellowstone with all the other wolf stuff, is a much better incentive to buy!
I think i might give them a TEST at the upcoming Mountain Festival - I have a few friends exhibiting photos, anfd I'm sure they would allow me to set out a few, for a small cut..
Any of YOU guys having a booth at the Festival? Want to help me "test" ?
If you could PROVE it was authentic, a price of $75-100 would be justified IMO. Problem is, this could be way too easily faked. Anyone with a little skill with animal tracks could replicate this and pass it off as the real thing.
Well, Dr Jim Halfpenny thought it was astounding, and asked for the first cast. All I could ever do is inscribe on the back the species, date, place, time found and sign it, as any piece of art, and "1/250'" or whatever as with prints and copies from the original.
