Hi, folks! I'm going to be coming to the Portland/Columbia River Gorge area in late July. I can't seem to find anything on the internet regarding average temperatures for that time of the year. Could one of you locals fill me in on how hot I can expect it to get at that time of the year? Also, do you have any Gorge campground recommendations?

If it's sunny, the highs will be in the 80s and lows in the 50s or 60s; if it's overcast or rainy, the highs will be in the 70s and lows in the 50s. You can reasonably expect sun at that time of year.

Very mild compared to Chico!

July/August are probably is probably the worst time of year to shoot there. I would head up to Ranier that time of year.

I'm with Erik. Head for Rainier or Olympic NP.

Agree with other, the waterflow and moss are past their spring vivid greens that you see posted here.... Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Rainier or the Olympics are all better photographic options.... you'll find wildflowers and awesome views.

Thanks for the info, folks! I'll be going through the Gorge as part of a much longer family vacation. I'm going to be doing quite a bit of photography, but it isn't the sole purpose of this trip. Ranier, Mount St Helens, and Olympic National Park are all on the destination list too.

Does anyone have any campground recommendations?

In the Gorge? There are campgrounds at Yeon State Park, Eagle Creek and Herman Creek -- all are subject to freeway and freight train noise, though (especially Yeon). A better plan would be to cross over to the Washington side and camp somewhere in the Gifford Pinchot NF or go south toward Mount Hood.

BTW, Mount Hood will also be in peak flower at the same time - the north side is especially nice, and about an hour from the Gorge.

Thanks, Tom. That's good info.

How are the flowers at Ranier right now?

Also, does anyone have recommendations for camping somewhere around the Mount St Helens vicinity?
