Painted hills evening /with re-work
Hey folks,
I haven't been able to do much shooting lately. I finally got out this last weekend and my wife and I made a trip out to the iconic Painted Hills (500 miles RT). When We arrived around 5 pm, it was completly overcast and I was feeling a little bummed. Around 7pm, the clouds started to break and I shot wildly for about two hours as the conditions changed. This is one of the shots I came up with. Just after sunset, the clouds over the hills exploded with color. I'm going to post one of those at a later time. I realize there have been alot of Painted Hills images posted, however let me know if this works. I'm a little rusty with photoshop as I sit here at the Oncology center processing my images on my Macbook pro getting my first of 12 treatments of chemotherapy for the next 24 weeks. :frown:

Get better, Erik. I know you will.

This is looking very nice. I was extremely close to meeting you out there this past weekend, but decided to stop around Hood instead (got rained and snowed on).

Great shot Eric, I really like the punchy colors of the hills with the blue sky....

what was your exposure time on this?

Jeez, Erik...The way you caught the light and shadows...is very unique. It really pops. This is a honey of a PH shot...icon or not.

You need to shoot some more soon too...before the chemo treatments wears ya out again.

I can't wait to see the evening shots. Like Rick said, the shadow play here is very cool. The detail in the foreground shadows holds a lot of detail just like the eye would be able to see. This is gorgeous.

One of the best I've seen of this view Erik. Gorgeous. :toast:

Outdoor Photographer featured PH in the Favorite Places column this month, but the photo they used really dissappointed me. I couldn't find a credit for the image but it looked like the photog had used a hard split ND and pulled it all the way down over the hills. It was a sunset shot with underexposed hills that showed no color. anyway, I digress

Great photograph. I wish you well with your chemo.

Hey folks,
I talked to my brother and he said my image here looked really yellow. I said that was impossible because it looked great on my MAC. When I got home, I checked it on my PC and to my horror it was yellow. Well I just finished re-processing it and this is real close to what it looked like on my MAC.

Well, on my brand new, just out of the box, Apple 23" Cinema Display, the first one looks a bit too yellow but the second one look like you've taken out too much yellow.

Thanks Mark,
I think I need to step away from this for a while. I agree I might have taken out a little too much yellow but you can be duped into thinking that after you see the first overly yellow image. I'm going to have to find a way to calibrate my Macbook pro to the same color as my desktop. BTW, Congrats on your new 23"cinema display. I was looking at one the other day and they sure are nice. I noticed that Costco had a real nice 24" Samsung for $499.

2nd one has too much missing for me also, Eric. The color there is amazing and with this light I would expect it to hurt my eyes a bit

Excellent shot !!

The second one almost looks like a RAW file... put hte yellow back and stop listening to the guy with the mushroom camera!

Seriously, I don't think the first one is too yellow at all...

Thanks Curtis,
On my PC it looks really yellow but on my Mac it looks great(the first one). Do you have a Mac? My wife also has a Mac laptop and it matches exactly whats on my Mac laptop.

I have a PC and the first looks a little strong in the yellow, but very minor. Definitely a better rendition than the second.

I've checked this on THREE Macs, Erik - the MacBook at work this afternoon, my Powerbook last night and my eMac (CRT) this evening. On all three, the first image is just a bit yellow, but not over the top. The second was definitely washed out on all three. I've struggled to customize the monitor settings on my eMac over the past year, and ended up adjusting it using some favorite images (as opposed to relying simply on the various calibrations in the system settings). That seemed to do the trick.

Now, if I could figure out how to view it on that old Commodore 64...

Tom,
Thanks, Thats pretty much how it looks on our Macs. Only thing my supposidly calibrated PC montior shows it being "over the top" with the yellow. I have definatly some work to do so they both match.
