Rock Beach ( Long Exposure)
1DM2, 17 - 35mm F2.8 @ 35mm, F20, 30 sec, ISO200

I was up at Acadia this weekend and I was at Rock Beach for sunrise on Monday(4:50 AM). This shot was taken at 4:32 AM or about 18 minutes before the sun broke the horizon. The light clouds you can see in the upper left sky prevented the soft yellow light and destroyed any chances these images of being good ones.
I am always amazed by how much light these camera's can gather in long exposures! I could not see any of the cliff or tree detail with my eyes, and the colors were not visible.
This ought to be a much better shot this fall during our autumn outing as the tide will be high and the sky usually does not have this white cast to it. Otter cliffs generally reflect an nice pink / golden glow.

The sun does not rise until 6:54 or there abouts in October!!

Hi Jim,

I just had to post this image because the composition is almost identical to yours. I actually took this shot last October.

Jim,
Sorry to coopt your thread, but if you are trying to garner interest in the Fall Outing at Acadia, I thought I'd add in two of my shots of Otter Cliffs. I took these a bit back from the pebble beach, but I loved the pink light and knew I'd miss it walking to the pebble beach. The horizontal was taken at 6:58 and the vertical at 7:05. This was on 15 October 2006.

Here's the vertical.

Rich & Michelle,
Your images show the difference between the angle of the sun in October ( it rises over the water) and the angle in June (It rises over land probably over what is Sullivan, ME) as well as the impact of the humid air in June. I like the spot you found with the famous pink granite and believe I have been there in the past with people for the same reasons. There are also some great places for other kinds of shot including the foliage.
I will post some further details for October in July.
