Beulah Sunset
After dinner my wife and I were at Sonic on the west side of Pueblo (Route-44 diet vanilla coke), and I couldn't even sit in the car, so excited was I by the incredible weather coming our way. Wall clouds, roiling in all directions, constant lightning, sheets of rain - it was amazing! When we got home, I jumped in my truck and headed west towards Beulah, hoping to capture some lightning without it capturing me first. I saw a gap on the horizon, and even though the more violent part of the storm moved east of me, the possibility of a rainbow with lightning kept me hanging on with fingers crossed. No lightning, but I got the rainbow.

It got pretty good looking the other direction, too.

Todd, those are fantastic lighting conditions. You were very blessed to see and record this! The top pick with the rainbow is my favorite. I really like the inclusion of the small tree in the field which is nicely just off center. Even at f/22, you'd be incredibly lucky to capture a lightening strike, but the image is fantastic as is. If I were to be uber-picky, I'd like to see just a bit more contrast in just the sky to enhance the clouds, patches of blue sky and the rainbow. You should post this on the weekly challenge. Your lighting conditions are actually similar to the one I posted there from a trip a while back to Canada, but I think I like yours more and I'm sure its much sharper than the one I took hand held in 40 to 50 mph winds with Velvia 50.

Kewl. I can just about smell the rain in the air on the first one.

Wow! These are absolutely terrific! I particularly enjoy the lines, colors, and overall feel of the 2nd shot. Beautiful work, man.

I must admit that when I first saw the reference to Sonic I thought, "First McDonald's parking lot, now Sonic? How the hell does this guy find such great shots in fast food parking lots?" But then I read further to find that you actually had to drive somewhere to pull this one off.

Good stuff brother - keep 'em comin'!

Wow, that first one is mind blowing! The print will look great.

The first one is great. I think that the little tree makes it.

Nice shots Todd. That storm system was amazing last night.

Todd, what does it cost to rent a space in your truck for a month? You see some of the most wonderful scenes and light.

Holy crap, Todd. A rainbow AND amazing color in the sky? Both pics are eye candy but the first one is just insanely beautiful.

I love the rainbow and the excellent placement of the tree. Beautiful conditions. The storm activity is certainly offering photo fodder. Congrats!

DAYUM!!! Don't think I've ever seen a sunset like that with a rainbow. The photography gods were definitely smiling on you that evening. :toast:

Wow... awesome. Seems like you guys have been getting some great sunset action over on the Front Range recently.

This is great! The colors are close to some of the nice sunsets we've had up here in the big city lately, but the rainbow and simple composition are a supurb compliment to the sky drama.

I have seen similar colors after eating a chili cheese dog at Sonics, but in a much less desirable setting.

Great stuff, Todd.
I was thinking about you the other day while at work in Pueblo... we were out on a few calls around sunset, and the sunset was great. Too bad I can't stop the fire truck and take pictures :frown: . I remember thinking you were probably out shooting some great stuff.

Wow!! and Wow again!

What Bret said. The colors and ethereal feel of that first one is absolutely stunning. The two images compliment each other well - they'd look gorgeous hanging on a wall side-by-side.
