MAC or Windows PC?
Are you receiving any error messages?
Has this happened before?
Have you installed any new Adobe applications or PS plug-ins?
Do any other programs that you use have problems loading (including your OS)?
It sounds as if PS is looking for a file and cannot find it. Either the file is missing, or it is corrupted.
You might also see if there is any info on the Adobe site.
This sounds like a corrupted preferences file. I've seen this in the past. I can't remember the combination of keystrokes to use, but when starting Photoshop, you press some keys and the preferences file will be re-created. Sorry I can't remember what, but I imagine a quick search of the web will help.
I agree, it sounds like the preferences are corrupted - I don't know the Mac key names but on Windows hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and start Photoshop (requires 3 hands or 7 fingers on one hand ). Answer yes to deleting the preferences when asked.
Are you having any other perfromance related issues such as other programs loading slowly?
Does PS finally fully load, and is it usable?
Here's a couple of ideas...Try defragging your hard drive. Second, check to see which programs are running in the background. Both of these can be performance killers.
To see what is running in the background...
1. Click Start>Run
2. In the box, type "msconfig" without the quotes.
3. Click "OK"
4. In the resulting box, select the tab that says "Start Up"
You will see a list of applications that run when Windows loads. If you decide to disable any programs, I suggest you boot into 'Safe Mode'. Disable (one at at a time) those that are not needed. You can re-enable a program that is needed. Be careful! Disabling the wrong program may cause problems.
Problem FIXED
I found a process called"SCANNERFINDER.exe" that was using 60% of my RAM. I disabled that and rebbooted and CS2 starts up as expected. After reboot "SCANNERFINDER.exe is using 0% RAM
