I finally finished my first round of post processing the Grand Teton images from our recent trip. It was truly an awesome experience. I was a bit surprised by how many photographers I met on sight in the wee hours of the morning. The weather was fabulous with great variety almost every day.

I have posted these initially on my photo hosting site for friends and family to see. But I plan to narrow them down a bit (best of best) and put those on my photography website. You can click on an image to see a larger version.

Thanks again to everyone for the tips on where to stay and shoot.

Scott B., based on your recommendation we did stop in Laramie on the way back. We drove up into the Medicine Bow area and went to Lake Marie. It is a great scenic location! I definately plan to go back for some early morning light, etc... :wavey:

Damn Derek, you got some great clouds while you were there!! That's a sunset shot if I ever saw one. (Only come sunset, those clouds won't be there! )

I didn't see any of the Old Barns? Did you get a chance to get down that way?

Here's my attempt at an old classic.

Mike,

I'm glad to see a recent shot of Mormon Row. That is the one places I wanted to go to but didn't make it to this trip. One morning I had a choice to do Schwabackers Landing again or Mormon Row and well I'm a sucker for water, Tetons, and sunrise. But I have to say that the awesome photo I saw from Scott Bacon of Mormon Row was one of the big motivators for my trip.

Art, I am actually wanting to do exactly what you mentioned. I just have to find a good B+W converter/plugin. I used to do this during RAW conversion. But these images required some degree of post processing because of the strong light and wide dynamic range.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Because this is a first pass on processing I appreciate any C&C feedback as well. I will probably crop some, bump up saturation, do in B+W, etc...

Thanks again,

- Derek

Well, you saved the best for almost last. Photo #48 of 55 is a killer shot! (needs a little curves spike, but that's it.)

I luv your shots of Jenny Lake, or at least what I think is Jenny Lake. We were there last summer...had a great time, but all my shots of Inspiration Falls were blown out. Yours are fantastic.

Great shots. The next time you take your little kids, borrow a canoe. Put it in at Oxbow Bend and paddle arround the old river bed. It is all flat water. It is the wildest place that I know of in the lower 48, and it is so close to a highway. I paddled for an hour and saw elk, moose, eagles, osprey, mink, fish, pelicans and, sandhill cranes I even had an osprey and an eagle fighting over a fish, and they dropped it a few feet in front of my canoe.

Ho,hum, yeah, yeah, been there done that  NICE work Derek! That first one will make a nice B&W for sure. I agree with Todd on number 48... that will tweak nicely. Love the clouds - I have not had good clouds my last several trips; in particular the shot with the twinge of pink in the sky. Glad you had a succesful trip.

Art, John -

I was really hoping for some clouds and the weather just seemed to come together. I had also heard that in June anything can happen (thunderstorms, hail, snow, etc ...). We got everything except snow. Although one of the 'two' nights we camped out it in the Tetons it got down to 29 degrees. So it could have easily snowed.

July is supposed to be warmer and I have heard there are already two wildfires in Yellowstone and the Tetons. It was a pretty dry winter season (only 40% snow pack). If I go back again it will be during May/June or September for fall colors and combo weather.

Derek, you have a bunch of keepers in this last group. I also agree with Todd, #48 and #49 will make a terrific pano after a little PS contrast work.

Good work,
Craig
