Works for me and I don't mind the wire in the slightest as it's such a commonly used perch.
Nicely processed too.
Composition wise I would have shot it exactly as you have done and probally took some additional shots with the bird higher in the frame.
I'd imagine this is perfect though if you intend getting it onto a front cover.
I echo everyone else on the wire thing Tom - the two are synonymous - just slightly tight at the bottom
but streets better than any swallow shot I've got
Wire doesn't bother me as it is today a very common perch for this species. Fantatic detail, exposure and BG - I would probably add a little canvas to bottom!
i probaby would have given this a little more space in front of subject, to even out what is above it if you understand me and to give it something to "breath" into. personally i agree that the wire detracts from the success of the image. if it had been rusty then maybe? i don't know why i don't like it, looks too new to me?
I do not mind the wire, but would give it more room underneath and take some off the top but you know that already! Although, sure, someone could write some text on the top.
Super shot of the bird though, love the colours, details and pose.

FF with a small bit (5px) added to the canvas at the bottom.
Composition a tad wrong but I was struggling a bit, how would you have composed this in camera.
I have a feeling its going to lose its top in the final print.
This is what we see them perched on a lot so why not.
Nice one.
Major.

Perhaps a shade less room on the left and a touch more on the right.... shows their colouring very well indeed.
The wire does not bother me at all! I would however add some canvas at the bottom as the tail is very close to the edge.
