Greetings from New Mexico! I'm Dan Gerth, live about 20 miles north of Santa Fe in a wide spot in the road called Jaconita. Relatively long time lurker, and new member, so I finally decided to put up a photo. I caught this thunderstorm coming in over the Sangre de Cristo mountains just after sunset last night. Not much post processing, bumped up saturation and contrast and sharpened a little. It was beautiful, so I had to share.
Welcome, Dan. That's quite a debut image - serious power in that storm. Nice work containing the range and not blowing the hightlights. Simply awesome. The area in transition from orange to black looks downright sinister.
Welcome to the club, bud! But apparently you didn't get the memo. I handle all the cool cloud photos on this forum. This photo is just too good for me to tolerate. Please send $100 to me and I'll forget the whole thing. This time...
Thanks for the kind words folks.
Todd, don't know what came over me, the check's in the mail. Hope I remembered to sign it.
Scott: look me up if you ever get down here, the first one's on me.
Momo: It came out a little dark here, it's better in the full size image. But you've convinced me, I'm going to lighten it a little. There's a cool mamatus formation in there.
Well Hello Dan! I never knew you was a photographer! Hmmm. You work side-by-side with a guy for years and you think you know him.............
I sat at a friends house in Santa Fe and watched this spectacle unfold (without a camera of course). From Santa Fe, the bottom clouds were much more orange-pink to day-glo pink! It was a great show (although quite windy) and you have captured it well. Welcome to RMNP and NPN!
Nice to see you on here, Dan. That's a great photo. I assume you read the fine print on my workshop application stating that any spectacular photos you take following the workshop are copyright of Grant Collier and can be used in any of my books. So go ahead and email me a hi-res version of this image.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Besides Todd's monopoly on cool clouds, this group has another tradition - new guy buys the beer!
Welcome aboard!
This would make a great print.

Oh, and don't let Todd scare you. Wait, maybe a little....
