I headed out before sunrise today to try and photograph some cholla cactus north of Pueblo. They're really flowering nicely right now! Well, after traipsing up and down this lonely gravel road in the predawn darkness, I finally got out to take a closer look at some of the blooms. Did you know the flowers on cholla close up at night? D-OH! So I went to Plan B and drove past Pueblo West, where I'd seen some nice flowers last week. Either they were gone or I missed them, so I settled on the vast expanse of foxtail grasses.
I'll go after those chollas some afternoon this week, maybe with storm clouds brewing overhead. Stay tuned.
That spot you see directly below Pikes Peak is a lone tree, but it looks so much like a dust speck at this size that I probably should have cloned it out.
Wow - I haven't seen a field of foxtail like that before. Even though the expansive view is pretty impressive, I'm liking the more intimate shot even better. Sweet the way they capture that light!
I see a lot of tails, but where are all the foxes? Very cool textures? And who would have thought a large expanse of prairie existed along the Front Range without telephone/power poles intruding!!! Good job!!!!!!

Very cool Todd! I LOVE the foxtail grasses!! I've always loved any plant that can look cool while moving!!
Bring on the Cholla!
It is almost up to my standards
Seriously great comp and light on the first one.
Three weeks after my prostate cancer surgery I am almost recovered enough to hit the field, hopefully by the end of this week.
