Great Egret
I ran across this beauty preening today.

I could literally hear Tom in my head saying, "Move back...get the feet, get the feet, don't crowd it."

So I'm moving back as far as I can in a tight spot, and then I hear an 18-wheeler starting its engine right behind me. Of course, there are no 18-wheelers in the swamp, and my brain then remembers that's the sound of a large gator. I turn around and yep, it's a
9-footer eyeballing me. Mmmmmm...scrambled Lance for breakfast.

Anyway, I stopped moving back and took the shot. Comments very much appreciated.

Off topic: Richard, I can't take my eyes off the incredible waterfall shots people post from the Smokies...October, here we come.

Nice shot I like the detail of the feathers against the blue sky. Glad you weren't gator lunch!

I love it! I don't think it suffers from loosing the feet at all...and its much better your photo lost its feet instead of you loosing your feet to a gator.

No, no, no, Lance! We all sacrifice somewhat for our art but...DO NOT FEED THE 'GATORS!!!

BTW, you did a super job on the exposure. The whites are perfect.

The contrast between the clean whites of the egret's plumage and the deep blue sky really make this outstanding, Lance.
