Stormy evening here in central Kansas, with rain off an on until 7:30pm or so. The city display was postponed. We were out in the country at a friends when I took this shot long after sunset. I was trying to catch the farm implement against the sky, and the fireworks from a farm up the road were a bonus :). Canon 30D, Sigma 17-70mm at 57mm, f/5.6, 65 sec exposure, ISO 100
The second pic is taken looking back into town, from just a couple miles out. I was having a hard time getting the fireworks into focus for some reason, even with setting the lens at infinity. ISO 100, f/5.6, 14 sec, 70mm. Comments/suggestions welcome for either shot. Thanks for looking.

Hey Rob, glad the rain didn't ruin all the evenings festivities. I like both shots and especially the inclusion of the implement in the first. I also understand about the trouble focusing. That's why this year I prefocused on an appropriate spot and the set the camera to manual focus and never touched it again. On my post I had sharpened the image for printing at 6 x 9 and then used the same file downsized for web display, not the best way to do it. Glad you got some shots in, maybe more tonight?
Neat shots, Rob. The farm implement against the sunset is a classic Kansas shot for sure! I was in St Mary's yesterday trying to do an arts/crafts fair, and darned it we didn't have to pack up all our stuff to beat the storms coming through. Glad it cleared off and you got these neat shots. I've tried shooting fireworks but without much success. Maybe if you guys teach me all these neat tricks, I might be ready to try by next July 4th!
