My wildflower trip the week of the 16th just got extended . Most of it will be in the San Juans, but I'm relooking at the Crested Butte area for an overnight stop on the way home.
Does anyone have any shots from Twin Lakes in the Maroon Bells wilderness (not off hwy-82)? What's it like?
The Copper creek trail or Democrat basin might be other options. Any other off-the-beaten path ideas for an overnight backpack trip?
Twin Lakes has been on my list for a while, but the one time I tried to get to the TH, my full-sized Silverado was just too wide. And the road was a real piece of shiat, from the very beginning. I've thought of trying it again, now that I have the Nissan Frontier, although I might get partway up and decide an ATV would be better.
I've seen a shot or two from Fielder, and it looks like a great place.

Todd, about the road, was that Brush Creek road from CB or the Pearl Pass road from Aspen?
Anyone else, Any recent road reports for Brush Creek road?
Brush Creek from CB. (Pearl Pass is beyond what I want to do, although I've been partway up the Aspen side.) The road was fairly narrow, and it was very bumpy, annoyingly so, with little babyhead-type road surface that I just didn't feel like doing that day. Maybe it wasn't as bad as I remember it, but I was just not in the mood for it at the time.
