I am thinkin' of heading up to the Sonora Pass country for a few days...

Tuesday thru Thursday, July 17, 18, and 19.

My plan is to car camp somewhere, loaf, and make photographs. This means I will be doing further refinement on the skills of PAL (Photo Adventure Loafing).

If any of you CANPers are interested in PAL skill development in a wonderful mountain environment, please post in this thread and send me an e-mail.

I'll be traveling along the coast next week and leaving San Francisco on the 17th. Im not really sure where I want to go afterwards so this might be great timing. let me know what I should bring since I've only driven thru Sonora Pass once. if it's free camping even better. is there snow up there now? It looked so amazing two Mays ago.

Preston,

Already sent you a note. I'm in! I've got mountain fever and I need to get away. It'll be 104 today.

Unless I hear otherwise, I'll just pretend I'm camping on my own and bring everything I need.
That would include camera, film and a beverage. Do I need anything else? :-)

I can probably meet up with you guys one late afternoon or evening possibly.

Richard: probably not much for snow, isolated packs on north facing slopes/notches maybe as are around here.

Cory, that sounds great! Let me know at some point which day so that we can plan to tie in with you. Would you be staying overnight?

Richard, send me an e-mail and I'll let you know what to bring. Lon, I'll let you know, as well

I found your e-mail, Richard. Thanks. Whew! It must be the heat. Yeah, that's it...it's the heat.

It's 111.4 in Sonora right now!

Are you serious? Oh man and I wanted to shoot Columbia and some other stuff in the river valley.

Oh...112 at 5:00pm. Arrrgh!

The river canyons will be very hot! Early morning is best for them, and for Columbia. I haven't experienced this kind of heat in many years here, and I've lived here since 1974!

112! Ouch. I thought it was hot here, 108, but falling ever so slightly now. I'm thinking I might be able to take a half day on wed. I don't think I can stay the night though. I'll email you with my cell no.

There's no snow for sure at 6000ft in Sonora. It's very dry. Was there a couple of weeks ago. Watch out if you make a campfire.

Preston, I would LOVE to learn and more about what is required in YOUR definition?
My only problem is that I only get some much time off during the week....
Had you done it this week, I would have come up the night of the 3rd and
been there all day on the 4th... problem when you work M_F....
Will you be there thru the weekend? Unless I have a prescheduled time off'
I am generally limited to weekend...I can sleep in my car
Please let me know if you ever plan to stay thru the weekend..
I would LOVE to put some faces to names
and get to share some fun and evenings round the fire :toast:
Let me know if you might stay??only 108 in Sacto today....

in gratitude,
Nelcha

I just got back from backpacking in Humphrey Lakes area. It was cooking. At 11,700 ft, the sun was relentless and there is not a lick of shade that far above tree line. To add insult to injury, despite the dry winter and warm temp.s, the @#$%*& mosquitoes were pretty bad and the light sucked. Other than that, it was a stellar trip.

Preston, would love to join you, but no way to get away from work. Have a great time. Sip a cold beverage and burn a sheet or two for me.
