Just FYI for anyone who might be interested. Sometimes I want to have a look at my print file at actual print size on the computer screen, but when you select that under the “View” menu the size is not correct. What is happening is that most monitors are no longer the standard resolution that Photoshop was set up for (72ppi). There is a way to change the standard screen resolution that Photoshop uses, and once you set this, then whenever you want to view your file as the actual print size it will view correctly. Here is how:
First, open an image and have the rulers turned on and then view the file at “print size” (View> Print Size). You need to have a ruler on hand to do this. Lay the ruler on your screen and see if the measurement matches (one inch on the ruler equals one inch on the image) - it probably will not. In Photoshop (on the Mac - not sure where it is on a PC) go to: Preferences> Unites & Rulers> New Document Preset Resolutions> Screen Resolution>. If the measurement did not match then you need to change the number of the screen resolution (say up to 90ppi for instance), then hit OK and select “print size” again and the size of your file should change on screen. Measure it again. You will need to keep doing this until the “print size” matches your ruler. In my case my 30” screen requires a monitor resolution of 101ppi, and now when I select “print size” one inch on screen equals one inch. Once you set this up you don't have to mess with it again.
