UPDATE: The fires are out except for a few smoldering spots up high which the forest service is letting burn it's self out. Here's an interesting link about the fires:

We had some lightning caused fires yesterday between big pine and lone pine. Apparently 395 was closed last night. They had to evacuate upper and lower grays medow as well as 7 pines. Caltrans doesn't list it now as without restrictions. Here's some links:

It is extremely dry out and with humidities in the 2-5% range it is easy for a fire to start and take off. Please be careful out there!

Wow1 12,000 acres as of this morning for the complex. The Big Pine country is one of my favorites: it is sad to hear about this fire.

Yes, do be extra cautious! Fuel moisture content today usually doesn't occur until late August!

This is so sad to me. Big Pine Canyon is one of my favorite places. Hopefully the fire did not reach the upper part of the canyon where the campgrounds and Glacier Lodge are located. That would be heartbreaking.

Three fire fighters from my county were injured in a burn-over on this fire yesterday. Their names have not yet been released. It is quite likely that I know them. I hope the injuries were minor.

This is the biggest fire complex that I can ever recall hitting the East Side; and I've been bumming around over there for over forty years!

Pray for rain, you all!

So sad. :-(

Yes, Preston...rain w/o lightning!!
I heard today that 6 firefighters had been injured?
They are all heroes to me....
This is another reminder that our photographs are also documenting history!
Nothing is as constant as change....
It's just not friendly when it involves someone or some place we love....
Thanks Cory for the links....

in gratitude,
Nelcha
