i'm thinking of adding to my print sales efforts by mounting some prints in apertures, ready for framing. i did an 'art in the park' event yesterday and was pleased with the sales, and i already had some mounted in apertures which were done by a gallery. they seemed to sell better than the unmounted versions.
i'm thinking i can probably be more cost effective by doing this part myself, as the gallery are charging like £7 per print to mount in an aperture.
my question is, does anyone know if there are decent aperture guilotines (spelling?) on the market, or other kit type products available for doing this type of thing? also, does anyone know a supplier that can supply the card, and even the plastic sleeves for placing in for protection (some rowdy child thought it was a good idea to bash one of my prints with a stick, damaging it and then the parents grabbed him (it) and fled without offer of apology).
I use http://www.lionpic.co.uk for all things art.
A good mount cutter is not cheap, and, unless you are going to be doing hundreds of them, it is a job I'd farm out to a pro.
Take a visit to your local framer and ask for a quote on the mounts in the sizes you want. Mountcutting is a job that, if done incorrectly, can make your photos look bad. Nobody really notices good mount cutting, but everyone can see badly cut ones.
Hi Mark,
I use this guy :
http://www.picturemounts.co.uk/
He supplies me with 11x14 mounts with apertures for 12x8 prints with free plastic bags to put the mounted print in. I also have 11x14 back boards off him.
Costs are £1.10 ea for mounts & 38p for the back boards. (All plus VAT & postage of course).
Regards Rob.
