Hi,

I'm looking for a Nikon D2X in near mint condition as possible, I'm trying to avoid the ebay route, so if you know of or have one for sale, please let me know.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks Brian,

I did see that, but can't justify buying a D2Xs for such a small gain over a D2X with the firmware upgrade. Also, seen one at Gray's of Westminster, but as usual they appear over priced.

Mark - Just go to your local dealer and tell him to beat Warehouse Express on price or you'll go there - that's what I do all the time.

Just to 'queer your pitch' think VERY carefully before you invest heavily in the Nikon route - I had a D200, got rid of it thank god for a D2Xs, and then got a 1D2 body aswell - believe me, GREAT camera that the D2Xs is, I wish I had 2 Canon bodies.
The D2Xs sensor is stunning but in less than perfect light the images are a lot noisier than Canon, and as for the AF system, by comparison to the superb Canon system, Nikons is possitively stone age especially with super teles.

If you buy second hand make sure you check the number of shutter cycles before parting with your loot

Hmm i dont agree Andy. Having used Canon, for about 3 years, with alot invested in Canon lenses, i changed just over a year ago to Nikon.

For pure ergonomics, the Nikon's are years ahead of canon, and if anything i find my focus better than the Canon 1D system. I rarely user AF-C/AI Servo, but must admit i prefered it in the Canons.

The D2X/s have the same sensor, and the noise is about 1/3-1/2 a stop worse than the D200, though the noise is less prone to patterning. If i had the choice it would be the D2X than the 1DII(n)

Paul - maybe I wasn't as clear as was my intention, I wouldn't swap my D2XS for a 1D2; that would be lunacy of the highest order.

The crux camera body for me would be the Mk3 and what I was aiming to advise Mark was to weigh all the options and take his time.

I totally agree with you on the ergonomics front - Canon do not produces a comfy in the hand body imho, at least not as well as the D2, and as for user-friendlyness suffice to say putting a Nikon down and picking up a Canon 1D is a major paradym shift every time!

But for me at least I find the AF system from Canon to be an awful lot better in accuracy and speed and more versatile than either the D2Xs or the D200, though the D2 is superior to the D200 (what I hated about the D200 I had was it's lack of dynamic range more than anything else - I got a lot more 'blinkies' on the D200 than I do the D2Xs, a LOT more).

The reason for the "blinkies" is that the D2X meters differently, i cant remember where but i saw some dynamic range tests for the D2X and D200 and they where with in 0.5EV.

As for AF, the D2X is more responsive in the AF than the D200 but on the accuracy front i found little difference. That combined with the size difference, is why i have a D200 now. I just wish i could get AF-C to work as well as AI-Servo...

Thanks Paul & Andy,

I have already invested in Nikon quite heavily: 300F4 AFS and 600F4 AFS plus other bits and pieces, so I have no intention of leaving the Dark side
