Y'all will laugh at this dumb error. I had the camera set at 1600 IS0
from night before and I took this picture of hawk in our yard. The background of white, hot dull SC sky was blown out in my camera !
I used LR to save it pretty good and at 8x 10 it printed sharp enough . Live and Learn

Oh man - how about this:I have missed too many wildlife shots from forgetting about having the self timer on. Push the shutter and nothing...then I see the timer counting down. My cussing then usually scares the critters off. I love Hawks. I'd keep an eye out for it to return.

Yea Leann , just gotta get a routine down to check things like when a pilot checks a plane for lift off.

I've never seen a Red Tail in person. It looks impresssive, especially the way you took it, looking up at the large branch..

We had a couple of Red Shoulder Hawks in one of the local wetlands last winter, but no Red Tails. Thanks, Don.

Thanks Lance , I wish I had a lower ISO and better background then the blown out sky but it is a beautiful bird . AS you know taking bird shots in naure is a lot different then taking them at the zoo

Thanks for posting, Don.

Great find and impressive bird. The entire scene is a bit busy but you take what you can get.

I would hate to have to list the dumb mistakes I have made over the years. Geez, I could write a book.

Richard,
Go ahead we're listening

Lance, A few years ago when I was shooting with a p&s I had the best month with a visiting juvenile Red Tail in the middle of the fall hawk migration. I could park directly in front of it and just shoot away. It was so pretty. Of course that opportunity hasn't found me yet since owning a dslr.
