Just a pano...
My son and I spent an afternoon scouting the area along Three Creeks Lake Road out of Sister for an area to get a good view of the mountains. We finally settled on this rock pile just off of the road (easy access!). I've been out there several times since working on a comp and have often seen people standing on surrounding volcanic rocks watching the sunrise. This is the tallest rock formation on the ridge and after trying many compositions, I like this one the best.

I hadn't expected any color in the sky this morning and had planned on shooting sunrise shots as the light hit the mountains. I'm glad I was there early enough to be setup in time for this pre-dawn shot. I prefer it greatly over the other shots I've taken of this area.

I'd like to try to be there again when there are more clouds catching the surise colors.

This is a 5 shot pano resulting in a native image that is 3' x 1' at 300dpi (~222MB). It's just a pano but, I'd like you comments since I'm going to continue to follow up in other conditions.

PS - D80, 18-70mm @ 52mm, 1.3", f16, 2 SSGND, jury-rigged pano head, minor retouch/sharpening in PSCS2.

I really like it...I bet it would sell well in a Bend gift shop!

Hans, this is a really nice picture. A six foot print of this would look awesome hanging in any living room. I'm sure that you will be thinking about getting out to this spot every time you see interesting clouds starting to form in the sky!

This is real nice Hans. I wish I had a link to a larger version...
Better yet, maybe you should "lend" me a really big print so I can give this a thorough evaluation... like over the next ten years or so...
