Monument Rocks
I was planning to go to Monument Rocks this coming weekend but since gas prices went up 26 cents a gallon today ($3.33) I might have to just look at some of my pictures from previous visits. This is from several years ago as a storm was aproaching in the evening.

How are the rest of you dealing with high gas prices?

Good grief, this is stunning, Ken! I think this is the first time I've seen it from this angle, and I really like it. Of course, the lighting was pretty special here, but this angle really works well. Great job! I'll bet a B&W of this would be nice too.

Shooting around "weather" will often produce amazing light like this - when most folks are running for cover you know it is your turn to get the camera out!

Beautiful. The incoming storm made for some great light. The angle is great too, I'd have never thought of that angle, and you picked the right light for it.

Looks like a scene from a movie about aliens landing in Kansas. The mother ship is just through that archway right?

I've seen so many woderderful images of this place. I'm going to have to make that detour on the way to/from Colorado sometime.

I really like this perspective Ken and the light looks very nice with the approaching storm. My color management skills leave a lot to be desired but on my home monitor there seems to be a blue cast to this image (I know it's in shadow). Is it just me?

BTW, to answer your question about gas prices, they recently came into play for me. I had an impulse to drive into the flint hills in hopes of a great sunset sky last week but the cost/time/reward just didn't seem to add up to a smart decision, so I stayed home. It's 2 + hours each way, minimum 150 miles each way (and on site scouting) in hopes to get a picture that I don't have any buyers for. All total, I figured I'd spend $45 on gas, $10 on toll and at least 8 hours on speculation of a great sunset. Maybe when I win the lottery!

Ken you found some great light for this image and the sky add drama.

I am with you guys on the gas prices add in your time and cost of equipment it all adds up very quickly. But we do it because we enjoy it.

The last trip we took along a couple of other photographers to share the gas.
