Red-breasted Merganser
Taken on the estuary of the River Artro near Shell Island, North Wales. At first I thought it was a juvenile Goosander because I've seen Goosander there in the winter. I think it's a juvenile though as it's colours were very muted. Soon after this photo was taken, the bird was driven off by a pair of Shelduck who have a brood of 7 half-grown duckings - echoes of Springwatch

Techs: E-510, 300/f2.8 + 1.4TC, ISO 200, 1/500 @ f/5.6

C & C welcome

A nicely-timed shot.
I would brighten up the picture just a touch, and apply a bit more sharpening.
