I grabbed this 4x5 shot in a little meadow just west of Sonora Pass back in late May. I had to wait a bit for the cloud cover to sweeten the light. A minute after I made this, the sun popped out from behind the cloud and the wonderful glow was lost.
Preston, I really like this for some specific reasons, but the primary one would be for it being out of the norm so to speak. I think those who have shot as long as you have look for the other then grand vista images when at all possible, I know I try too. As for the technical capture all of it looks really sweet IMO. I think the perfect timing with the lighting as well as the very true to color presented by the Astia & the overall plant pattern laid out before the rocks makes it a real winner.

Nice one Preston, the leaves seem to really glow. Good stuff!

Nice, Preston. Did you get your film back from our trip yet?
Thanks, everyone. As I look at it again, it seems the greens are bit too saturated. I will likely tweak it a bit.
Just a note: The plants are called Corn Lilies (False Hellebore) I've been calling them 'skunk cabbage' for years, but I certainly like 'corn lilies' much better.
Dan: Yes, I did. I scanned one of the shots of the trees on the rocky slope from the evening when you were there. I'll post it tomorrow.
Well done, Preston, I really love the greens and the detail in the leaves.

Hi Preston,
This is really nice....
I like Corn Lilies in general,
but seeing these babies is a real treat!
And a real unique take on the subject.
I am also appreciating your eye as it matures....
Don't know if you've changed the color yet,
but it looks just fine on my monitor....
I really love the re-worked version - and not that I didn't like the first one either! The big difference I see is the richness of the granite; brought out by darkening a bit. This is just a beautiful intimate scene.
I'm hoping to get my images back by Friday... can't wait.

I did some work on this image and would like your opinions.
Corn Lilies Re-Work
I darkened the background rocks, used 'Selective Color' to add a touch of red and blue to the greens and then reduced the saturation of the lilies.
Your comments will be appreciated, as always,
