Darren's startrail post got me thinking about star trails again.
Here's one I got from Bandon near Face Rock last summer. The illumination on the rocks and beach is a glow from the city lights that wasn't visible to the naked eye.
Although it looks clean and sharp here, there is some softness in the rocks when viewed large. The noise in the sky is tolerable--To sharpen, I use a large radius (maybe 2-5 px) and a threshold of 20 or more. It tends to sharpen the trails and leave most noise alone.
Also I used the in-camera noise reduction, which made the total time approx 28 minutes.
The tide was way out at 1 AM and walking among the exposed bases of the sea stacks was not a little reminiscent of being in an old-growth forest at night.

This is really nice Mike. I would definitely put this on my wall. I think this is more of an impression peice and you probably won't get much scrutiny on the sharpness of the rocks or the noise. The star trails look good and I really like the lighting and depth of the sea stacks. It took me a moment to notice the one in the background and then I noticed that there is detail on the ground too! Very nice.
