An image from the Marsh Fork, Canning River on the western edge of ANWR on the north slope of the Brooks Range (near latitude 69 degrees). We did a 10 day raft/hiking trip in late June. This photo was taken after midnight. It was a spectacular trip!
Sweet image, Paul. Love the sweeping curves and splash of vibrant color. Midnight, huh? We recently got back from a trip to Canada in June - all that daylight makes it tough to want to go to sleep. Too much to see, and 20 hours of daylight to see it with. We were exhausted when we got home. Hope you're having as much fun as we did!!
Thanks, guys! I have more posted on pbase (http://www.pbase.com/pbeiser/mfork&page=5 starts the flower and landscape section). Yea, Rick we came back exhausted as well from all of the daylight, and it sounds like you had a great time as well (what place did you go?). Don, at this time of year (June) mosquitoes are not bad (we had bug nets, DEET, etc) but after the first week in July through the first of so week in August, they become totally overpowering (the guides told us no rafting trips at all are run then because the mosquitoes are so bad).
Paul - we drove up through the Beartooths in Wyoming/Montana, then up to Glacier/Waterton and on into Banff and Jasper. We also spent a little time in Yoho, Kootenay and Kananaskis Country. It was a high-speed fly by of a lot of places, but a good sampler that will help us plan for the inevitable return trip. Amazing country up there! Mosquitos weren't bad either, until we returned to the Beartooth's on the way home. There was one day when they were just simply UN-believable. DEET slowed them down, but I still ended up with a dozen or so welts.
