Well not strictly speaking as these are a ground nesting squirrel called sousliks and I had great fun with this family of youngsters on a trip to Bulgaria last month.
They very much reminded me of meerkats in terms of their behaviour as they seemed to group together and spent forever calling warnings etc to each other, particularly when the resident Buzzards took to the skies!
These were three youngsters who always seemed to stick together and were more confiding than the parents in terms of working a hide in closer each time they popped underground - the parents simply came out of a different exit further away but these three hadn't learned street smarts (or is it pasture smarts?) yet.

Nice image of an endangered specie. Was this image taken on a trip with Mr. Enchev??

Fantastic image Mark, I haven't seen a suslik yet but their nearest equivalents would be the ubuquitous gophers of N America. Another one for my list next time I am in Romania. I think that there are two species in the region - these, I suspect, being 'European Sousliks' rather than 'Spotted.'
