Preston, I have never made the trek over the Sonora Pass, so this is a new and different look for me. It appears to have some "moonscape" look & feel overall. I like the angle of view here and feel the FG shaded area shows some strong detail, as well as having it's own look in this scene too. I can appreciate your comments on the compression issues, I find the same fine detail loss when scaling the 4x5 images down. It truly is nice to still see some snow as hot as the overall temperatures have been this summer so far.

interesting Preston. never would have thought of this being Sonora Pass. I can't make the trip unofrotunately , got some personal business I have to go home and take care of tomorrow.
Preston, not quite sure about this one as it's presented here (probably has a lot to do with my cheap monitor too) I know the tranny is fine and am looking forward to seeing it. The image looks very harsh and the light areas are indeed washed out (compression and monitor I'm sure). I believe the comp is exactly what we were trying to achieve, and trying in a rush to get it shot before the shadows consumed the whole area. Good job, lets see that tranny
I'm sorry that I've yet to comment on this one - especially since you showed me the spot this week! I have an even greater appreciation of this now knowing how the light played on this throughout the day. You've captured this in the optimal ligh; the shadows are long and creeping up from the bottom. Beautiful shot.
Dan - this is located just a couple of miles west of the summit; right at the apex of one of serious hair-pin turns. You would recognize it as you head up the pass.

5 repliesThere is detail in the snow in the master file, but compression sort of eats it in this web version.
