This little chap was one of six that made a dash, from the reeds, into to sun on Saturday. He's making the most of it by stretching to dry out , which didn't last long, about 3 mins to be exact before he was soaked again.
600mm/TC14/Tpod
640'/F8/400ASA.
Normal PS and I have cloned out a few bright spots.

Certainly indicative of the weather we've been having lately. It really looks fed up.
Very nice detail with just the right amount of enviro info.

The 600mm is good and I have to admit that I am really glad to have the 'reach' again. After years of owning a 600mm Nikkor my mind must simply have become tuned to 'seeing' that distance and I set-up accordingly. Then moving to a 500mm, whilst it is excellent in every way, I, well, missed that 'reach' especially as I use a FF camera: I always found myself trying to shuffle forward.
As for the image above there is something about it that I don't like and I cannot put my finger on it. It is not the sharpness - as it is is tack sharp at full resolution, it's not the bird, it's just ....?

Endearing shot.
About your hesitations, could it perhaps be slightly oversharpened? It looks like that on my monitor.
Hello Tom
I know what you mean about this image, it almost looks as though there is some movement and doesn't appear as sharp around it's eye - aas you say, it's just ????
Best wishes

Great work.

Thinking about chopping the 500 in for a 600 as I want to go with a full frame sensor camera, waiting to see what canon bring out for the 1DS upgrade.
Nice work.
