I found an obliging Cuckoo feeing on a road the other day. Got many shots of the bird both on ground and in trees. Light was a bit harsh.
I experimented with the one-shot mode of my MarkIII and peculiar enough more than half of the shots (approx. 1000 photos) of this bird where not sharp Really strange that on a pretty stationary subject the AF just doesn't nail it everytime.
1D MarkIII + 500/4 + tc1.4; carwindow + beanbag, iso400, 1/400 F7.1. cropped 10% from left for presentation.
Nice image of a rarely seen bird. Your remarks about the AF on the MKIII when on 'one shot' on a static subject are very worrying. The failure rate is so high that I would not feel confident when using the camera - I would box it up and return it to Canon!
Hi Helge,
Very nice shot , I don't have a shot of a cuckoo and I don't expect I'll be getting one anytime soon , I'm very envious indeed , I also don't own a MK111 and to be perfectly honest I don't think I want to , as David suggests , return it to Canon!!!
Kind regards
Andy...

Nice image of a rarely seen bird, worry times on the MK3 front, lots being said about the AF on the MK3 some good some bad.
This site has a big write up on it http://www.birdsasart.com/bn.html in the bulletins section.
Worth a read me thinks

Superb detail in the eye. Not heard a cuckoo in years around here let alone seen one.

well done on getting such a good shot of it
A great shot the detail and sharpess are superb, I've only ever seen these at a distance. Sorry about the camera.
