Last week end in Yosemite, I forgot my backpack on the curry village parking lot comming back from the half-dome hike. Too tired to think straight I guess. And no news from lost&found services.

So now I'll have to think of getting a new camera. What do you think of the Olympus Evolt E510? It finally has IS, liveview, bright large screen, and comes with the 2 generic lenses that cover 28-300. And now they have some "pro" zukio lenses available at a reasonable $600-ish...

Body: $700
Body + 1 14-45 lens: $840
Body plus 2 lens: $940

Zukio lens 11-22 2.8-3.5 (22-44 equiv 35mm): $590
Zukio lens 50-200 2.8-3.5 ED (100-400 equiv 35mm): $880

Dan, I just purchased a 510 2 lens kit. The IS works well and the live view can be magnified up to 10X for precise manual focus, has to be great for macro. The two lenses included are compact and have quality glass. Some find them cheap looking. The Zuiko lenses most popular with the Olympus crowd seem to be the pro 14-54 and the 50-200. One thing I found very improved is the new CAF with two IS modes. The software is to some infuriating and will require some patience. The Oly colors as usual are spectacular.

This link displays some of the new IS capabilities, check out those shutter speeds!

if I were looking to buy something cheap I'd go with whatever the latest version of the Canon Rebel. probably in the same price range. I'm sure the low end Nikon's have good image quality too but they have less features for the price from what I have seen.

The issue with Canon is that USM IS lenses are very expensive, like the 100-400 :(

Charle's info is useful. I was wondering how good the IS is.
For ex. the Sony Alpha claims it's good for 3 1/2 stops while most get you 2 stops.

The 510 is not yet reviewed by dpreview...

The E510 is going to be my next camera. I have the E300 and E330. I really like the live view of the E330. The 11-22 is the best lens I've ever owned (this includes 5 or 6 OM wides and Pentax 645 wides). Sharp right to the edges (except for a very small loss in the distant corners), no vignetting, no distortion to speak of and no chromatic aberrations.
