Narcissus bulb fly
Got home from work this afternoon so went in the garden to see what was out in between the heavy showers. This bumblebee mimic was sunning itself on a bamboo leaf for a few seconds. I think it is
Merodon equestris the Narcissus bulb fly. Worth sacrificing a few daffodil bulbs to see it in the garden, as it can be a pest apparently.

Nice shot David and agree with the I.D - this species comes in a number of colour forms. If I had more than a few seconds, I might have sacrificed a some ISO rating for a bit more dof. These larger, bulky insects (like bumblebees) are, I find, quite difficult to get pleasing shots of because there is so much to potentially focus on - give me butterflies any day.

Nice image of the Bee David. The white bits at the rear of the Bee is a bit distracting. :toast:

Nice image David - would be better on f11/f16 and focussed a bit nearer :wavey: :toast:
