I've been trying to get close to Dragons for the last 8 days with no success at all - it's been stressfull :frown:

This morning I was parked up a dirt track with high hedges and only just wide enough for the Cherokee, rolling a smoke having just given the dogs a muddy run accross the fields - when this lady came to rest no more than 18" from my drivers door window (already down luckily)

Good job I had the macro setup with me, though I'd got a 1.4tc nailed to the back of the lens - I had to stick my bum on the handbrake (mmmm!) to get far enough away to get the dragon anywhere near in frame.

She seemed happy enough to put up with me so I blindly rattled off about 90 images before she went.

This is cropped from landcape to vertical only - god this lens is pretty good even with the tc on the back!

Could really have got more DoF if I'd been a bit more thoughtful - but I'm pretty pleased!

Techs
D2Xs
Sig 180 macro + 1.4x tc
ISO 250 -0.7EV TTL ringflash
1/320th @ f8

Thanks for looking :toast: :toast:

I did'nt know you can use a 1.4TC on a Sigma macro lens, cant be done with the canon's ones  .

I love see'ing detail'd close-up shots like this.As it show's just how complex they look with all the hair's and stuff.I've always said its another world looking though a macro lens.

A very nice close-up shot :toast: :toast:

Lovely Andy. The longer Sigma macros really are superb.

Great stuff Andy,

I really like this, tricky to compose effectively, but you've nailed it.
