Crater Lake at sunset amidst thunderstorm skies.

Thanks for commenting. Colors went a little funky in-camera for some reason so I felt the B&W best represented the scene. Decreased central contrasts are due to light rainfall.

Cool shot. I do like how everything is drawn to the center, I just wish it wasn't quite so dark. Not sure what you mean by decreased central contrasts due to rainfall though.....?

The central background is a bit hazy due to some light rain moving in. It's practically a night shot, so this was pretty representitive of the light levels at the time....that and I just like it dark.

Marc,

I like this shot much much better than the one with lightning in it...

the sky here is much more your style and the clouds seem to point to wizard island

you could lose that patch of white snow in the bottom right corner and that would be ok with me! :toast:

If you drew a line from the bottom left corner to the upper right corner, then I like the top left portion of that. Right seems a little flat and uninteresting.

my jealousy abounds. That's all I got to say. :toast:

Wow, Marc this is stunning. I love the dramatic sky and lighting, very surreal.

i really like the rocks in the left foreground, seems to ground it in reality in an otherwise surreal image.

Outstanding Marc, great choice for B&W. Moody and powerful, I like it.

I like it as is, the moodiness says stormy to me and the lightining spotlighting the water around Wizard Island is powerful

Definatly a different shot of Crater Lake. I agree it's quite an excellent image. I also see what you mean about the central contrast. I was about to say maybe the dodge tool was used too much on Wizard Island.

Surreal. I was just there a couple of weeks back, and I could never imagine it to look like this at the time. Dark and moody. The light is great, and really helps to focus the eyes. It seems like a scene out of Lord of the Rings. I think I see Frodo way down there...

That clouds are outstanding, as usual, Marc. Wizard Island seems a little flat, and kind of dodged looking - a bit of contrast to bring out the trees would be nice. Beautiful, evocative scene - nice!

Hey Marc--great clouds and comp...I think it mainly works because of the vignette leading towards Wizard Island...I'm curious though how you went about applying the vignette.

Peter, the wide angle and lighting did it for me, but there was also a little dodge/burn to emphasize certain areas.

I haven't seen too many B/W images of Crater Lake. Love the lighting and the mood. Compositionally, I don't think you can get much better. Everything radiating from the edges keeps me locked in.

Another unique take on a place. I really really really like like... aw hell... LOVE this shot. Awesome mood, awesome light.... maybe I'll compose a compostion in my studio to match this one.

Jeez, Marc!
